Tomoka River, Volusia County by M.H. Myers
Photographer, painter, musician and an all around creative spirit, M.H. Myers is an artist we recently had the pleasure of meeting. His photographs, composed in black and white, illustrate his ability to beautifully intertwine rich tonal range, intriguing compositions, and a harmonious balance between the elements that seem to capture a genuine connection between person and place, material and landscape, or nature living and thriving amongst itself. Myers feels the black and white process allows for an abstract purity that cannot be achieved through color work, providing an essential, honest representation of his subjects. As a native of Florida, he has witnessed the continuing destruction of its natural beauty in one of the fastest growing states of the union. It is through his photography that he wishes to preserve some of that beauty for others and future generations. Combining traditional and contemporary methods, he works with medium and large format film cameras, then scans and digitally prints his works on archival paper. From pre-visualization to the finished image, Myers controls every aspect of the artistic process. Included in private and corporate collections, and the recipient of numerous awards over the years, he continues to interpret the natural beauty of his native state, as well as a few other personal favorite areas of the country, including Maine, Arizona and New Mexico.
We have a great collection of Myers photographs in our showroom, framed and unframed, with varying sizes. Today, Myers is focusing his artistic energy on painting. Can’t wait to see what he creates!
